Employment for sportsmen?

One thing which has been mentioned on the Channel 9 coverage is that at least one of their floor managers in the NRL coverage used to play at the top level, for Parramata I think. This begs the thought that footballers and cricketers in the UK need to consider broadcasting not just punditry as their next career. For instance cameramen, directors etc could be ex-players. It seems obvious to me that it would be better to have ex-footballers in more of the roles. Also a tactics/analyzer red button whereby coaches and others interested in tactics can hear and see the game through that viewpoint would be desirable.
